Hair like Clockwork

They say eyes are the window to the soul, but hair is the window to the inner you.

Just as much as the clothes you wear are a reflection of your inner style, personality, as is your hair. Everything you eat, drink, etc. will be reflected in your hair. While surfing the blog-o-sphere I came across a natural who shaves off her natural hair and starts fresh again every two years. This is a very daring feat because anyone knows if you take care of your hair correctly, hair can grow by leaps and bounds in two years. 

Style Inspiration: The Roaring 1920's

The 1920's is hands down my favorite era. The 1920's was not just the birth of the great fashion with cloche hats, elaborate hair accessories and the 1920's marked the jump start of the Harlem Renaissance and the Jazz Age. What I wouldn't give to have been alive in the '20s living in good 'ole New York city. Imagine frequenting the same jazz clubs as the literary greats like Langston Hughes and Zora Hurston. Every time my mother and I read "A Dream Deferred," I felt like I had magically drifted back into yester-year.

Fashion during the 1920's was flashy. And in the height of black fashion was the drapper gentleman is all his glory. Women wore real fur coats and everything was well made.

Hair Woes: Natural chica, The Beginning

Big chopping my hair instead of doing a full transition from relaxed to natural was a very personal decision. My first time ever cutting my hair short was in 2010 when I opted for a bob cut. I was in my sophomore year of college and wasn't able to make the 45 minute drive across town every two weeks to get my hair done. I was doing it myself, or having one of my friends do it, and needless to say my hair was beginning to become damaged. The cut was liberating. For the first time I felt like I was in control of my hair, like I had a real say in my appearance.

Made in China? U.S. Olympic Uniforms

I was well aware of the hideous nature of the United States' 2012 Olympic Ralph Lauren uniforms. They look uptight and constricting. The over-fitted blazer and staunch hats look like they should represent France instead or the old Soviet regime instead of the land of the free, home of the brave. But to make matters worse, reports have surfaced that the uniforms were outsourced and made in China.

Motivational Mondays: Never Apologize #BossChat

The BOSS Network is community of entrepreneur and career women who support each other through online and event-based networking. Yesterday The Boss Network held a #BOSSChat on twitter giving 24 things a women should never apologize about. I really related to a lot of these points and they were exactly what I needed to hear. Here are a few of my favorites.

1. Never apologize for pursuing what makes you happy. Even if you need to quit your job, transfer schools or move. Always do what you really want.

2. Never apologize for giving your best in a relationship that just didn't work out.

3. Never apologize for being successful.

4. Never apologize for crying. Wear waterproof mascara and express yourself.

5. Never apologize for the 10 pounds you need to use. People who truly care about you will accept you as you are.

6. Never apologize for treating yourself to something special. Sometimes you have to show yourself some appreciation.

7. Never apologize for saying no... NEVER!!

8. Never apologize for demanding respect. You are to be treated like a queen.

9. Never apologize for changing your mind; it is your prerogative.

10. Never apologize for being YOU!!
